Dornier 328
The idea for the German built turboprop Dornier 328 was conceived in 1984 as a speedy thirty seat commuter transport airliner that could operate from smaller airports.
When the airplane was introduced, it had the widest cabin of its class. It was among the first aircraft of its type to take advantage of composite materials for both weight reduction and strength. The large propellers provide more than ample thrust. Its cockpit was all-glass equipped. The aircraft achieved impressive take off, climb, and overall speed performance.
Dornier 328 aircraft were sold to Australia. They have been used for search and rescue since 2005.
A total of 112 Dornier 328 aircraft were sold through 1999.
A jet powered version of the Dornier 328 for sale was certified in July 1999. A total of 83 jet aircraft were sold before production ended in 2005.
